Why did we wait so long to go to Hawaii?

We're back from 8 days of fun 'n sun on Oahu. We kept saying to one another that it was almost weird how friendly everyone was. Not just hotel staff and waiters etc (people paid to be friendly) but every local that we spoke to was just - nice. We stayed on Waikiki and just checked out that area for the first 3 days. Though it is really busy there, it was still an awesome place to be with lots of shops, the zoo, the aquarium, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay etc. We reserved a compact car at Enterprise for our last 3 days and their good people upgraded us to a Sebring convertible.
